The Iloilo art scene is teeming with events on the road to the Visayas Islands Visual Arts Exhibition and Conference scheduled in Iloilo City on November 17 to 20, 2016.
Nine Ilonggo writers will feature their literary pieces on October 8 for Poetika, an open mic night weekend of poetry reading, music and other expression.
Among the writers who will read their work at Poetika are aspiring writers and Iloilo Collective members of Dakila Media Collective for Modern Heroism Jo Andrew Torlao and Allyn May Canja. Torlao heads the education committee of Dakila Iloilo Collective while Canja is the gallery coordinator of Casa Real Gallery.
It will also feature John Clark Hortillosa, Marvin Monfort and Rhick Larz Albay, a journalist and sports editor of Panay News.
Writers from Hubon Manunulat will also take the centerstage which includes Noel de Leon, Early Sol Gadong, Gil Montinola and Norman Darap.
Poetika is a monthly poetry reading event organized by the Writer’s Circle of Panay. The session is being held on a chosen venue as a gathering of artists to celebrate expression using words and a solidarity event among writers.
For October month, Poetika will take place starting 5:00 P.M. at Esplanade Uno, a new watering hole by local artists which serves Vietnamese food and located at the foot of the Carpenter’s Bridge at the Mandurriao side of the Iloilo Esplanade.
Local artists are starting to warm up with art events one after another on a weekly basis in Iloilo City as ViVa ExCon 2016 is drawing near. The ViVa ExCon Organization of Iloilo is also sponsoring Poetika in its aim to inspire more local writers to create literary pieces and encourage local artists to play an active role in building a vibrant arts community in Iloilo and the Visayas.
