The Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University has teamed up with Internews Earth Journalism Network for a webinar, entitled: “Covid-19 and Wildlife Trafficking: Reporting Animal Trade and Zoonotic Diseases”.
It is set April 29, 2020 (Wednesday), 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. (Philippine time).
The webinar will have the following resource persons:
- Patrick Boehler, co-founder of the Environmental Reporting Collective, and
- Jhesset Thrina Enano, environment reporter of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
The discussion will focus on zoonotic diseases in Asia, considered the hotspot of the illegal trade and trafficking in wildlife. Boehler and Enano is expected to share practical tips for journalists embarking on similar reporting projects.
It will be moderated by veteran journalist Luz Rimban, who is the executive director of ACFJ.
The coronavirus pandemic has shone a spotlight on diseases transmitted from animals to humans and the illicit trade in wildlife that causes it. Investigating the link between zoonotic diseases and the wildlife trade has become an urgent issue in this time of Covid-19.
Journalists from Asia are encouraged to attend. Register through the link: http://tiny.cc/webinar_april29
