People’s Domain supports Global Handwashing Day 2020

The countdown is on to October 15, 2020 – Global Handwashing Day and peoplesdomain.net is supporting the global advocacy drive.

The Global Handwashing is a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives, said globalhandwashing.org

The COVID-19 pandemic provides a stark reminder that one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of a virus is also one of the simplest: hand hygiene, especially through handwashing with soap, it added.

To beat the virus today and ensure better health outcomes beyond the pandemic, handwashing with soap must be a priority now and in the future.

The United States Agency for International Development in the Philippines (USAID) generated popular education materials for the Global Handwashing Day 2020 for social media posting. The materials is being distributed in Iloilo by USAID’s Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project in partnership with the Iloilo City Government.

The social media cards carry relevant and informative texts about the importance of handwashing with soap. It will be posted by peoplesdomain.net on its Facebook and social media accounts on the road to October 15 – the highlight of the global event.

The first Global Handwashing Day was held in 2008, when over 120 million children around the world washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries. Since 2008, community and national leaders have used Global Handwashing Day to spread the word about handwashing, build sinks and tippy taps, and demonstrate the simplicity and value of clean hands.

Since then, Global Handwashing Day has continued to grow.  Global Handwashing Day is endorsed by governments, schools, international institutions, civil society organizations, NGOs, private companies, individuals, and more.

The 2020 Global Handwashing Day theme is “Hand Hygiene for All.” This year’s theme follows the recent global initiative calling on all of society to scale up hand hygiene, especially through handwashing with soap. This year’s theme reminds us that we must work toward universal access and practice of handwashing with soap for now and for a healthy future.

No matter your role, you can celebrate Global Handwashing Day.
